What is the Setting of a Story?
Setting and time frame are very important to a piece of literature. Setting refers to the place in which the story takes place. Time frame is the time in which the story is set and how long it took to develop. These factors highly influence the contexts of many works. If someone living in modern-day California were to read a book that was written in the South in the 1800s, they may have highly contrasting views with the author on what is appropriate to write in a novel, but the author may not have even said something that would have been considered negative in the past. It is important to understand the context of the writer, and an easy way to do that is to look at the setting and time frame of the story.
