NYSTCE Dance Practice Test
College graduates who majored in Dance and wish to teach Dance in the state of New York will need to become certified by the New York State Board of Education by taking the New York State Teacher Certification Examination (NYSTCE) for Dance. The NYSTCE series includes a wide-range of exams related to specific educational topics as well as exams related to specific careers within the educational system.
The NYSTCE Dance Exam is one of the exams that the State Board for Educator Certification created to assess the subject mastery in Dance for prospective New York Teachers. You will need to register for the test ahead of time and schedule to take your test as administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS) at an official testing facility. The testing assistants will review the rules for the testing site with you, which includes not taking anything into the testing area with you.
Dress comfortably for your test and be sure to bring proper identification with you on the day of your test. Plan to arrive at the testing facility at least 15 minutes prior to your scheduled time. Test-takers who arrive more than 15 minutes late may not be allowed to take the test and may have to reschedule it at a later date. You will need to achieve a score of 220 to pass the NYSTCE Dance Examination. The test is timed, so pace yourself accordingly and read each question carefully. You will be allotted 3 hours and 15 minutes to complete your test, which will be plenty of time if you prepare well.
The Mometrix NYSTCE Dance Study Guide and NYSTCE Dance Practice Test have been carefully designed to assist you in preparing to take your test. Your examination will include questions on Dance Elements and Skills, which covers body movements, dance principles and techniques, ballet, modern dance, jazz, tap, folk, world, and social dance techniques. Another section tests your subject knowledge in Creating and Performing Dance, which includes the topics of choreographic principles, processes, devices, structures, dance production, and how dance relates to other art forms.
You will also need to study Anatomy, Health, and Dance in Everyday Life which includes questions on health, safety, and injury prevention, as well as anatomy as it relates to dance performance and how dance relates to everyday life. The final section is on Dance and Culture which includes the history of various forms of dance and the relationship between dance and culture. You will also need to be prepared to answer 1 constructed-response question on Responding to and Analyzing Dance.
