ILTS Science: Chemistry Practice Test
Chemistry is a complicated area of science found in high schools all over the country. It involves various compounds and how they interact with each other. It also requires exceptional math skills. Do you have what it takes to teach chemistry to Illinois students? Prove it by taking and passing the ILTS Science: Chemistry Exam.
The ILTS Science: Chemistry Test consists of 125 multiple-choice questions. You are given three hours and 45 minutes to complete the test. A scientific calculator and periodic table are both provided on-screen during your test. You will need a score of 240 or higher to pass.
The exam is comprised of six subareas: science and technology, life science, physical science, earth systems and the universe, matter and structure, and stoichiometry and chemical reactions. The concepts you will need to know include science as inquiry, accepted practices of science, interactions among science, technology and society, technological design, how science relates to other disciplines, cell structure and function, heredity and biological evolution, life functions of organisms, how organisms interact with each other and the environment, properties of energy in its various forms, structure and properties of matter, forces and motion, electricity, waves, magnetism, history of Earth, water, land, atmosphere, dynamic nature of Earth, dynamic nature of objects in the universe and the origin of the universe. The test also covers scientific and math skills, safe laboratory practices, issues of public concern in the chemistry field, periodic relationships, nature of matter, atomic theory and structure, quantum mechanical model, formation of bonds, geometry and properties of resulting compounds, kinetic molecular theory, properties of molecules in various states, particles in solution, properties of solutions, chemical equations, stoichiometry, acid-base chemistry, thermodynamics, electrochemistry, mechanisms of chemical reactions, reaction rates and organic chemistry.
