All infants cry for various reasons as their main method of communication, but colic is characterized by excessive crying and irritability in an infant. This loud, high-pitched crying is not to be confused with a hunger cry. With a hunger cry, once a baby is fed, the crying will stop. Colic is often associated with gastrointestinal issues.
