How to Convert Percent to Fraction
Converting a Percent to a Fraction
To convert a percent to a fraction, remove the percent symbol and place the number over 100, then simplify if possible. Let’s look at a few examples. To convert 40 percent to a fraction, we’re going to remove the percent symbol and place that number over 100, and then we simplify.
40/100 can be simplified because the GCF of 40 and 100 is 20, so we’re going to divide our numerator and denominator by that GCF of 20. 40 divided by 20 is 2, and 100 divided by 20 is 5, so 40 percent as a fraction is 2/5. 25 percent. Again, we start by removing the percent sign and putting our number over 100, then we simplify if possible.
25/100 simplifies to be 1/4, when you divide the numerator and denominator by the GCF of 25. Let’s look at one more. 8 percent. 8 percent is 8 out of 100, which then can be simplified by dividing the numerator and the denominator by the GCF of 4. 8 divided by 4 is 2, and 100 divided by 4 is 25, so 8 percent as a fraction is 2/25.
