1. Which is the best version of sentence 5?
Choices B and C are incorrect because the sentences are not grammatically correct.
2. What correction should be made to the sentence below?
"Ship" in the sentence is possessive and requires the apostrophe. "Are" is the plural of "is." The subject, "events," is plural and therefore the verb needs to be plural in subject-verb agreement. "Are brought" is in the past participle, and "bring" is in the present tense.
3. Read the passage below before answering the question:
(7) The main purpose of the Revolutionary War was to freely break from rulers who did not give their people a say in their own government. (8) British colonists in America lived far away from their leaders in the British Parliament, and could not have a physical presence in government due to the distance between America and England. (9) This led to a denial of the rights that these colonists would have had if they still lived in England. (10) Tired of “taxation without representation,” as the popular slogan went during this time in history, the colonists felt so strongly that they should have a say in their government that they took up arms against their own countrymen and fought for their freedom.
(11) Today, Americans take the fact that they have had voting rights for over 200 years for granted. (12) That’s why voting isn’t as important as it was back in the day. (13) If you look at how other people and countries have all fought for the right to vote, and continue to do so even today, it’s plain to see that voting is something that should still be important in our society. (14) I hope that my generation will be the first of many to make voting one of our most important and treasured rights once again.
Which of the following sentences should be removed in order to maintain the focus of the passage?
