NCLEX Review: Ventilators

When do you need to use a ventilator? Ventilators can be overwhelming, so in this NCLEX review video we will start by reviewing the basics. Remember that mechanical ventilation is a means to mechanically assist or replace spontaneous respiration. It helps patients ventilate and oxygenate. Join us in our NCLEX test prep discussion as we talk about non-invasive and invasive methods to provide mechanical ventilation. We will then introduce the two basic types of ventilators that are available, with a focus on three types of basic ventilator modes for invasive ventilators: assist/control mode, intermittent mandatory ventilation and pressure support ventilation. We will finish our review with four basic ventilator settings.
