There are certain words that sound the same and are spelled the same, yet have different meanings. These words are known as homonyms. Some examples include: Bear, meaning the animal as well as to deal with something; Wear, which can mean either to adorn clothing and accessories, or it can mean to damage or erode something; and Bark, which can be either the outer layer of a tree or the sound that a dog makes. Typically the context of the sentence can help the reader determine which meaning is intended.
