# FTCE Mathematics 6-12 Practice Test

The FTCE Mathematics 6-12 Exam is computer-based and lasts for 2.5 hours. There will be approximately 75 multiple-choice questions to complete. The testing center will provide you with a scientific calculator, so you are not allowed to bring your own.

For examinees with conditions covered under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), you may request special accommodations, as appropriate.

Beneath the understanding of advanced algebra competency, some of the skills that will be assessed include solving polynomial equations, expanding binomials, and determining sums.

Beneath the understanding of functions competency, some of the skills that will be assessed include relating graphs and equations of functions, and determining the graph of a transformed function.

Beneath the understanding of geometry competency, some of the skills that will be assessed include utilizing properties of quadrilaterals, using the Pythagorean theorem, and analyzing basic geometric constructions.

Beneath the understanding of trigonometry competency, some of the skills that will assessed include using trigonometric ratios when solving triangle problems, and proving circular/trigonometric function identities.

Beneath the understanding of probability and statistics competency, some of the skills that will be assessed include interpreting quantitative data, using the Fundamental Counting Principle to solve problems, and deciphering data from bar graphs and histograms.

Beneath the understanding of calculus competency, some of the skills that will be assessed include solving velocity and acceleration problems, and solving distance, area, and volume problems.

Beneath the understanding of mathematical reasoning competency, some of the skills that will be assessed include categorizing reasoning as inductive or deductive, and using logic to evaluate arguments or conjectures.

Beneath the understanding of instruction and assessment competency, some of the skills that will be assessed include noting differences between various learning environments, and knowing the correct sequence of lessons for a particular concept.

## What is the most convenient way to register for this exam?

Registration is open online, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Once you have registered, you will have one year to schedule your exam.

## What is the cost of the exam?

The first time you take the exam, the cost will be $200. If you need to re-take the exam, you will pay$220. Payments can be made with a credit card, debit card, or check card.

## What are the testing dates and locations?

You can schedule to take your exam at any one of the many testing sites within the United States. Testing is done by appointment.

## What should I do the day of the exam?

Arrive at least 30 minutes before you are scheduled to take the exam, so you have time to sign in. Keep in mind that being late to the exam can prevent you from being able to take it.

Bring two valid forms of identification. Your primary form of ID must include your name, signature, and photo. Your secondary identification must have your name and signature.

You are not allowed to bring items such as audio devices, dictionaries, or watches into the testing area.

## What happens after I take the exam?

After taking the exam, you will see if you have passed or failed. Within 4-6 weeks of taking the exam, you will receive your official score report.

## What happens if I do not pass the exam?

You must wait 31 days before re-taking the exam. You can take the exam as many times necessary to pass.
