CSET Spanish Practice Test
The successful completion of the CSET Spanish Exam enables an instructor to teach Spanish to K-12 students in the state of California.
This is a computer-based exam in which you will have 1 hour and 45 minutes to complete subtest 1. For subtest 2, you will be allotted 1 hour and 30 minutes. Subtest 3 allows 2 hours and 15 minutes for completion.
Individuals requiring special accommodations can contact the test center to find out whether or not their special accommodations require prior approval.
What domains are assessed on this exam?
The CSET Spanish Exam consists of three subtests. Each subtest evaluates several domains, using multiple choice and constructed-response questions.
Linguistics of the Target Language
Total: 40 multiple choice questions AND 3 constructed-response questions
Under the General Linguistics domain, the areas that will be evaluated are the nature of language, language use, and applied linguistics.
Under the Linguistics of the Target Language domain, the areas that will be evaluated are language structures, error analysis, contrastive analysis, and sociolinguistics and pragmatics.
Literary and Cultural Texts and Traditions
Cultural Analysis and Comparisons
Total: 40 multiple choice questions AND 1 constructed-response question
Under the Literary and Cultural Texts and Traditions domain, the areas that will be evaluated are major movements, genres, writers, and works, and analysis of literary and cultural texts.
Under the Cultural Analysis and Comparisons domain, the areas that will be evaluated are cultural perspectives, cultural practices, and cultural products.
Language and Communication: Oral Expression
Language and Communication: Listening Comprehension
Language and Communication: Reading Comprehension
Language and Communication: Written Expression
Total: 30 multiple-choice questions AND 6 constructed-response questions
Under the Language and Communication: Oral Expression domain, the area that will be evaluated is speaking in the target language for many purposes in authentic contexts.
Under the Language and Communication: Listening Comprehension domain, the areas that will be evaluated are literal comprehension of spoken communication, inferential and interpretive comprehension of spoken communication, and critical analysis of spoken communication.
Under the Language and Communication: Reading Comprehension domain, the areas that will be evaluated are literal comprehension of written texts, inferential and interpretive comprehension of written texts, and critical analysis of written texts.
Under the Language and Communication: Written Expression domain, the area that will be evaluated is writing in the target language for many purposes in authentic contexts.
How do I register for the exam?
The most convenient way is to register online, using a credit card, debit card, or check card.
What is the cost of taking the exam?
$99 per subtest
What should I do the day of the exam?
Arrive at the test center 15 minutes before your exam is scheduled to take place. If you arrive more than 15 minutes late, you will not be admitted.
Bring a valid photo ID that includes your name, signature, and photo.
You are prohibited from bringing pens and pencils to the test center. Items such as a cell phone, calculator, and hat, are not permitted in the testing area.
What is the minimum passing score?
220 per subtest
What happens if I don’t pass the exam?
You can re-take the exam as many times as necessary to pass the exam, however, you must wait at least 45 days from the date of your last attempt before trying again.
