OR

• Six years of active service in the Army Reserve, the Army National Guard, the Navy Reserve, the Air National Guard, the Marine Corps Reserve, or the Coast Guard Reserve with an honorable discharge.

• You must be at least 17 ½ years old when you take the exam and have reached the age of 21 to be appointed as a Correction Officer.

• Must have a New York State learner’s permit at the time of your appointment and must keep a valid driver license from the State of New York prior to graduating from the Department of Correction Academy.

• Have proof of good character and a satisfactory background.

• You will need to be able to pass a medical and psychological assessment to show that you are capable of performing the functions of a Correctional Officer.

• You will be required to pass a physical test as well as a drug test.

• You are required to be a resident of the City of New York or of Nassau, Westchester, Suffolk, Orange, Rock or Putnam counties and you must be able to prove your identity as well as citizenship.

• Must be able to understand and speak English.

Environmental Police Officer Exam

The job of an Environmental Police Officer is to perform and supervise staff that is performing duties that involve protecting the watershed areas, water supply systems and installations that are maintained by the Department of Environmental Protection of the City of New York. Police Communications Technician Exam

The Police Communications Technician job entails working under direct supervision in the Police Department Communications Section. School Safety Agent Exam

 A School Safety Agent patrols designated areas of school buildings to help identify and prevent infiltration and unlawful or prohibited items from entering the school building. They are also responsible for maintaining records of people who enter and leave the building as well as monitor security cameras.
