2. AFOQT Study Guide

Study guides are going to be one of the most valuable study resources to help you ace the AFOQT exam. Using a study guide for AFOQT prep will help you to understand the details about the exam and will help you to brush up on key concepts, content, and structure of the exam.

3. Learn to Manage Your Time

What many test-takers may not know, is that on the AFOQT it is very important that you learn to manage your time while taking the exam. You’re given 3.5 hours to answer 550 questions. That means that many of the sections on the AFOQT gives you less than one minute to answer each question. When preparing to take the AFOQT exam, time yourself in each section so that you can learn how to manage your time efficiently.

4. It’s Okay to Guess

If you’re not completely sure about which answer is correct, it’s okay to guess. On the AFOQT, guessing an answer and getting it wrong is worth the same as a blank answer. So you might as well take a guess instead of leaving the answer blank. You’re scored on the number of correct answers you have and are not penalized for any incorrect answers.

5. AFOQT Flashcards

Using flashcards to prepare for the AFOQT exam will help you to understand more details about the concepts and terminology of the exam. Flashcards also help you to remember information for a longer period of time and helps to eliminate the need for cramming for the exam.

6. Study the Subtests

The AFOQT exam contains 12 subtests. This means that there is going to be a lot of information that you’re going to need to remember. Focus on areas that you feel less confident in. For instance, if you feel more confident in the Verbal Analogies subtest but not in the Math Knowledge subtest, spend more time on the Math Knowledge subtest than you would on Verbal Analogies.

7. Study in Sections

The AFOQT is a big test with a lot of information to remember. Instead of sitting down for long hours every day, try to study in two or three-hour sections with one or two subtests each day. This will help you to maximize your attention to the material and your mind won’t be exhausted.

8. AFOQT Practice Test

You need to make sure that you understand the concepts of the exam as well as figuring out which areas you need more work in. Taking a practice test can help you with just that. Not only will you learn which areas you need to work more on, but you can get a feel as to what the actual exam is going to be like. 10. There Is More Than One “Good” Test Score

A “good” test score on the AFOQT depends on what your goals are and what you’re wanting to do. If you want to become a pilot, your minimum score might be higher than other sections.

AFOQT Scores

The 12 test sections on the AFOQT exam create 5 scores to create a composite score. You’ll be given a number ranging from 1 to 99 for each section. This composite score will appear as a percentile which refers to the percentage of candidates who scored as well or lower than you.

Every individual that takes the AFOQT exam must score a minimum of 15 in the Verbal section and a 10 in the Quantitative section. These two scores will depend if you can become an officer in the Air Force.

Scores that qualify as “good AFOQT scores” vary depending on which career area you want to go in.

• Pilot: To become a pilot, you will need a minimum score of 25. This score is comprised of the Instrument Comprehension, Table Reading, Aviation Information, and Mathematical Knowledge sections. If you want to become a Navigator, you will need to score a minimum of 10 in these sections.
