The Republican Party is often referred to as the GOP, which stands for Grand Old Party. The Republican Party is considered socially conservative and economically neoliberal relative to the Democratic Party. Like the Democratic Party, there are factions within the Republic Party that agree with the party’s overall ideology, but disagree with the party’s positions on specific issues. The official symbol of the Republican Party is the elephant. The Republican National Committee (RNC) is the official organization of the Republican Party, and it develops and promotes the party’s platform and coordinates fundraising and election strategies. There are Republican committees in every U.S. state and most U.S. counties.
