The MTTC series is a group of subject area tests that determine whether applicants are qualified to teach a certain discipline in Michigan. Both tests consist of 100 multiple-choice questions. However, the paper-based test offers a time limit of up to 4 1/2 hours while the computer-based test has a time limit of 2 1/2 hours. The breakdown of knowledge domains is as follows: Listening Skills (25%), Music Theory (16%), Music History (16%), Music Creation and Performance (16%), and Music Education (25%). The minimum passing score is 220 for both versions of the exam.
