African Kingdoms: The Nok Culture

During the African Iron Age, the Nok culture was established as one of the more successful cultures, thanks to their ironworking technology. Because they were so skilled in working with iron, they were able to develop advanced farming tools which gave them a surplus of crops. This allowed them to have more free time to develop urban areas and create more things out of iron, such as weapons and artistic pieces. These advanced weapons helped protect the Nok urbanization that was occurring during this time. The artistic culture that the Nok were developing quickly spread among the neighboring areas and pieces matching the Nok style of art have shown up in the surrounding areas.
