ASWB Bachelors Exam Contents
The ASWB Bachelors Exam includes 122 questions spanning three core aspects of a career in social work.
I. Values and Ethics (35%)
Ethical Service Delivery: This includes ethical service delivery, including boundaries, client autonomy, reporting, documentation, policy, supervision, billing, electronic practice, end-of-life issues, and termination.
Diversity and Social Justice: This includes culturally responsive, anti-oppressive practice, including social justice, accessibility, identity, bias, privilege, power, exploitation, and immigration’s effects on clients and services.
II. Assessment and Planning (33%)
Assessment Methods and Techniques: This covers practical assessment skills, including risk evaluation, interviewing, client engagement, strengths and needs assessment, mental status exams, readiness for change, and record review.
Assessment Practices: This covers assessment-based service planning, including resource selection, culturally responsive treatment plans, intervention choices, medication awareness, and determining when clients are ready for termination.
III. Intervention and Practice (32%)
Practice Concepts: This covers core social work practice concepts, including helping relationships, problem-solving, empowerment, teamwork, end-of-life care, parenting, permanency planning, policy, and community engagement.
Intervention Methods and Techniques: This covers practical intervention skills, including communication, trauma-informed and evidence-based care, crisis and addiction treatment, case management, advocacy, goal setting, coping strategies, group work, and community-based practice.
Practice Evaluation and Research: This tests how social workers evaluate client progress, intervention effectiveness, agency programs, outcomes, costs, and the overall quality of professional practice.
Supervision and Administration: This covers organizational structure, supervisee responsibilities, consultation methods, and managing transference and countertransference in supervisory relationships.

Scoring Information
More difficult exams have a lower required minimum passing score, while easier exams require a higher minimum passing score. You will have four hours to complete this computer-based exam. You do not need any computer experience in order to take the exam. A tutorial will be given before the exam to make sure you are comfortable with the testing software.
