I have always been drawn to routine and order. My favorite part of being a massage therapist was targeting certain muscles and trigger points to release and relax tension in the body. The fundamentals I had could be modified but always worked, no matter how tight or stressed a client might be. If my clients were consistently getting massages, their pain was reduced daily but not gone. I realized I was limited in my ability to help people as a massage therapist because I only work to manage pain. I do not fix any ailments or structural problems. This realization encouraged me to pursue a new career. I wanted to stay in a health profession and the more research I did, the more I gravitated towards physical therapy. I put all my effort into obtaining my Bachelor’s Degree.

I am interested in watching all the stages of progression that the body goes through with physical therapy. I have had the pleasure of volunteering at the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation department at Hackensack University Medical Center. As one of the best trauma centers in the area, I had the opportunity to see all types of wound care that included patients re-learning how to walk as a result of a car accident to skin ulcers. The progression I saw these patients have from day to day was impressive. The body is an amazing machine and learning how to help manage its pain has been an amazing journey for me.

My passion, drive, and sacrifice on my path to higher education have fortunately paid off. I was recently accepted to the Doctorate of Physical Therapy program at Brenau University in Gainesville, Georgia. My determination has helped me through undergrad, and I am so close to achieving my dream. That is why my career as a graduate student is so important to me. I will not be learning just to pass an exam but learning to apply what I know to improve my future patient’s movement and function. I understand that there are many worthy applicants and thank you for your consideration.
