Write an essay where you tell us about what drives you in your pursuit of your graduate degree.
Eleanor Roosevelt stated, “One thing life has taught me: if you are interested, you never have to look for new interest. They come to you. When you are genuinely interested in one thing, it will always lead to something else.” This quote is powerful and speaks volumes to me because this is the message that I take with me throughout my walk in life. From this quote so many concrete decisions have brought me to the place I’m in now, which is an enlivening state of mind. Eric Thomas, a motivational guru, in one of his podcasts, asks his listeners to ask themselves, “What is your Why.” I believe that your “Why” is going to push you to become the best version of yourself in times where you are wanting to give up and throw in the towel. Which leads us now to our main question, Why a Doctorate in Organizational Leadership? Obtaining a doctoral degree in Organizational Leadership will bring a sense of accomplishment. Approximately twelve years ago, I went so far to graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Music Education from Holy Names University. This was a time where everyone from my core circle, including family and friends, didn’t think I would graduate. My plans after graduating with my bachelor’s degree were to go back to my parent's house and live with them until I was ready to move out. Unfortunately, that wasn’t an option that my parents offered me, they wanted better for me and denied my request. After that conversation with my parents, I decided to continue my education at Holy Names University in Oakland, CA and upon completion, I graduated with a Master's Degree in Business Administration Management in 2015. A doctorate shows mastery and proficiency, it exemplifies a person who is willing to go the extra mile to educate and challenge themselves in something they're passionate about. With everything that I have gone through so far with my education and experience, I would like to take a step and dedicate myself to complete my education with a Doctoral Degree.
