Write an essay where you tell us about what drives you in your pursuit of your graduate degree.

We all come from varying backgrounds, different beliefs, and interests. We all have one thing in common though, we want to live a meaningful lives. Living a meaningful life is what led me to pursue my Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy. What would you do if you were in a terrible accident, suffered from a stroke, or were faced with any kind of adversity? Occupational Therapy is a field that focuses on occupations, which are activities that you do every day that give your life meaning and purpose. This activity could be something as simple as cooking your favorite dish, leisure time with friends/family, attending your grandchildren's first recital. Occupational therapist help you find a way to live a meaningful and fulfilling life, even in the face of adversity. Occupational therapists advocate for their clients and assure they persevere and reach their goals. I spent many years working in health care and recognized how debilitating disease processes are. I saw how the slightest of injuries could keep you from being able to bend over to put your socks on, how a lung disorder can keep you from walking short distances, and how a heart condition keeps people from living their lives due to fear. I am not the kind of person that wants anyone to stop living their life due to a medical condition, and that is when I found Occupational Therapy. I aspire to be an Occupational Therapist that advocates for the field and consistently encourages the world to live more meaningful lives, despite any medical condition, through participation in meaningful occupations of daily life.
