Graduate school was—a few months ago—a distant and fuzzy dream, definitely not on the radar for this summer. Still pursuing my Bachelor of Business Administration degree, I wanted to be done with college. Just finishing the undergraduate degree seemed to be a stretch of willpower and strength. Now, I have been fully accepted in a Master of Arts in Communication degree at Liberty University for Fall 2019. The journey to this point has moved fast, but it still amazes me.

A few months ago, I was (and am still) working a job that I enjoy parts of, but one that I realized would not be my forever job. Working with people, hearing their stories, and encouraging them on their journeys are things that have always fulfilled and energized me; these parts of my job I adored. However, the demands of my current job were draining me. In addition to on-the-job training, the more I did informal research and talked to others regarding my personality and skill-sets, the more I realized I needed a change. I knew I was not living up to what I need to do with my life.

I believe that no matter what field I go into, teaching will be a part of it. Joy, inspiration, and hope fill me when I use my skills to help others understand things better and use their strengths for good.

Pursuing this residential graduate degree will bring opportunities to learn and grown alongside people. I will be learning under the teaching of masters in their subjects and will be working alongside students who want to better themselves. I look forward to honoring God in this next step of the journey, and I am thankful for His leadership. This decision has been one of the only ones that I now have complete peace and confidence in: this is the next step. I thank God that He has guided me to this point and is with me every step. All of these variables have inspired me to pursue this graduate degree, and I am looking forward to this next step of the journey.
