After I worked in ABA, I transitioned to working as a Program Coordinator for a 24/7 mobile crisis team that uses verbal de-escalation techniques to de-escalate individuals of the Regional Center. The primary goal was to reduce police involvement, hospitalizations, and 5150 holds in the South Central area of L.A. As a Program Coordinator, I worked out in the field with clients, attended client meetings, wrote whole person assessments, and also managed a team of up to 9 counselors.
As I sought to further develop my clinical skills and broaden my professional experience, I transitioned out of crisis work and into social work. Currently, I am a children’s social worker for the County of Los Angeles Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS). As a social worker I assess for abuse, neglect, and the safety of the child.
Working with the developmentally disabled population in the South Central community and working with families with DCFS involvement has helped me come to the decision to further my education and be able to provide therapy and mental health services to a broader population.
