Write an essay where you tell us about what drives you in your pursuit of your graduate degree.

During my senior year at the University of South Florida, I was struck by a car while riding my bike. I was in severe pain throughout the left side of my body, so I sought care from a chiropractor. After a couple of months of getting adjusted, the pain subsided. This piqued my curiosity. Once I graduated, I left Tampa and moved to Miami where I took up an entry level position with a chiropractor. It was during frequent conversations with Dr. Hector Andino that I learned just how beneficial Chiropractic care could be for the body. While working as a chiropractic assistant at the clinic, my knowledge grew, and so did my curiosity. I learned of a chiropractic school in Atlanta called Life University, and consequently, I attended a weekend program to ascertain my interest. I now know that becoming a Chiropractor is my calling! Visiting Life and speaking with chiropractic doctors and students showed me a new perspective. Chiropractic care can help heal the body and rid of disease such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart issues. I come from a family that treats these issues by taking medication. However, getting adjusted can align the body’s spine so that it can work at its highest potential, allowing for clear and fast signals to be sent from spinal nerves to all parts of the body. Knowing this made me realize that my family may be suffering from such diseases due to unclear signals being sent from the spinal nerves. This is a rather powerful possibility, and I want to be on the team of doctors who have been slowly changing the face of traditional medicine, by incorporating chiropractic care as a viable solution. Even though I was struck by a car and suffered from extreme pain, I can't help but see the irony in all of this. Had it not been for that, I wouldn’t have been placed on this path, nor would I have been introduced to Chiropractic Care. With limited financial resources, I am in desperate need of this scholarship, so that I may pursue this dream!
