Write an essay where you tell us about what drives you in your pursuit of your graduate degree.

My community needs an advocate for all students who face socioeconomic, cultural, and personal struggles that affect their academics. I want to advocate for the mental health of these students because there is a negative stigma towards mental health in certain cultures like my own, although it’s often never spoken aloud. I chose psychology as an undergraduate in hopes of advocating for the younger generation so they have someone to talk to about mental health and to treat it just like we treat our bodies when we become ill. It is imperative to find solutions for these students by creating a strategic plan to overcome their academic and personal hurdles. I want to be able to gain more knowledge on how adolescents not only overcome racism but the connection with mental health.
