Write an essay where you tell us about what drives you in your pursuit of your graduate degree.

The degree that I am pursuing is an Masters of Arts in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis on marriage and family therapy. I have always been interested in psychology, but it was through a internship in which my interests were made clear. For a semester I worked as a facilitator at the Children's Bereavement Center of South Texas. It was here where I had the opportunity to work with families, mainly children, in helping them deal with the grief of losing relatives. I learned the importance of forming a deep connection with clients. Additionally, I learned to help others while using Worden's tasks of mourning. Not only did this experience affirm my passion for counseling others, but it taught me to confide in others and to be a honest with myself. I believe going into therapy is the next step in my academic career and to be my drive for the rest of my life. Not only does a MA in Clinical Psychology teach me how to be a counselor, but it will make me a better person in every aspect of my life. It is why I have always been interested in psychology since my high school years. I believe strongly that I can make the world a better place with my degree in the best way I know I can.
