Write an essay where you tell us about what drives you in your pursuit of your graduate degree.
When thinking about what inspires me to continue on to graduate school, I thought of several factors. First, I’m a dialysis patient. Secondly, I’m passionate about supporting students in their future endeavors. I’m a 25 year old dialysis patient and I recognize the struggles of growing up dealing with a chronic illness. In high school it was extremely tough for me to focus on my health, school work, and social status with friends. In the end, I had to drop out of high school because they couldn’t give me the support I needed. I recently got accepted into the School Counseling program at the University of San Francisco. It has taken me a long time to get where I’m at now. On my journey here, I had to learn on my own that consistency and dedication is key. I plan on being a future high school counselor. I want to give back and give support to struggling students. Give them what I wish I had in high school. I believe too many times students with disabilities and low income students get pushed to the side. I want to be the support that they may not be getting at home. I want to share my story with them. I want to let them know that anything and everything is possible if you just keep your eye on the prize. This is why I’ve stayed focused and continued my education. I want to be the voice some of these students don’t have.
