For most of my life, I was a dedicated soccer player. I played at the highest level on a team in New Jersey and my main goal was to compete in the NCAA. I was recruited by over 22 schools all over the country and my dreams were becoming a reality. Soon after committing to Kean University, I received the news of a career ending injury. I had put my entire identity into being a soccer player. I was unsure how to move forward, how to build friendships without a team, and battled through depression. Eventually, I sought out campus organizations and decided to immerse myself in my school’s community. I joined a sorority, was elected Student Trustee, maintained an on campus job writing for the newsletter, and was an active member of our Leadership Institute. In short, student affairs saved my life when I thought that life revolved around a ball. I now hope to continue my journey as a graduate student pursuing a masters degree in Higher Education Student Affairs.

In my current role at UC San Diego, I supervise 15 undergraduate employees, which has become the highlight of my position. I have built one on one relationships with each of my students as they continue to discover their own paths while balancing work and school. I see myself in many of my students and each day I am confident that this is the field for me. Their journeys and stories have confirmed my desire and passion for education. Student Affairs has showed me the possibilities of being a part of something bigger than myself and a community that can make a lasting impact on a student. Soccer will always have a special place in my heart, but it is through losing something I loved that I am able to now pursue a career I love just as much. It would be a great honor to be awarded the Mometrix Graduate Scholarship in order to continue my academics. Thank you for your time and consideration.
