Write an essay where you tell us about what drives you in your pursuit of your graduate degree.

I was inspired to pursue a graduate degree for two reasons. The first is that I am most happy in an academic environment. I love to be surrounded by new ideas and perspectives, for my thoughts to be challenged with someone else's point of view. It is also where I learn best. I have one, specific understanding of the world, and there are so many that I could never imagine. If I am to be able to move in the world as a reasonable and responsible person, someone who is able and skilled to interact with and feel for other human beings, then I must be able to stop and hear their stories. I must be able to reconcile the idea that lives I have no conception of are happening concurrently with my own. I learn this best in an academic setting. So, the second reason is that I believe that each person has a responsibility to be aware of the rest of the world, to the change and the need and the ugly, as well as the beautiful. With awareness and knowledge, improvement in education, diplomacy, compassion, and understanding real change can happen and peoples lives can improve. These are the reasons I want to continue my education with graduate school.
