As the resident expert in any crowd of all things uncoordinated, I can assure you that I have
never accomplished anything without stumbling, bumbling, and falling. I gave up on college many
times because I didn’t think I was smart enough and because of a lack of financial support. My
father suddenly passed away and my mom left it up to me to go to college. I began the process by
taking out student loans and never felt like I was in the right place. I failed at countless attempts,
and switched my major several times.
I want to give students an education where they can feel comfortable and want to learn. I am
fully dedicated to becoming a FACS teacher, where I can teach students the necessary life skills
they can utilize out in the real world.
Family and Consumer Science has several areas I am enthusiastic about. I am passionate
about cooking and baking. Due to the lack of financial support provided by my family, I have been
working in a kitchen since fifteen years old. I started off making salads and desserts and worked my
way up to eventually becoming a waitress. My past job dealt with Interior Design and how to read
floor plans. I can’t wait to inspire students to design floor plans and to use creativity to express their
ideas and emotions. I have volunteered at a sewing school where I was able to work with young
teenagers to make different projects. I also volunteered at a baking school in Huntington where I
was given the opportunity to work with children who have disabilities. Having a strong passion allows me to push and inspire me to pursue my graduate degree!
Due to my financial situation, school has taken me much longer than I had originally
anticipated. The cost of education has been a struggle, but I knew getting an education would be
priceless. Being able to follow my passion, has inspired me to pursue my graduate degree in Family and Consumer Sciences.
