I grew up in Las Vegas in a family with 7 children. My father worked construction and my mother stayed home. After high school I worked construction and volunteered as a firefighter. I realized then that I loved taking care of people much more than building houses. In the mix of marriage and having two boys, my wife and I worked, rotating days and nights, in order for me to progress from being an emergency medical technician (EMT), to a paramedic/firefighter, and finally a nurse.

I have learned so much in every step of my education. Each of these fields has given me knowledge and skills that are invaluable in my care for others. In my time as a nurse I have worked hard to do the best I can to promote not only myself, but my unit, my hospital and the field of nursing as a whole. I have progressed in heart certification within the cardiac care and adult intensive care units that I work and have pushed myself personally and obtained my critical care registered nurse (CCRN) certificate.

As a student myself, I felt lucky that I was able to interact with and learn from so many great teachers and preceptors over the years. They truly were a motivating factor in my choices for personal advancement. It would be an honor to educate future students with the care and enthusiasm that I was taught with. I am now looking forward to attending The University of New England to continue my education in the specialty of anesthesia in nursing.

When all is said and done, I would say that learning itself has motivated me to continue on in my education. Developing knowledge and skills in order to help others is a feeling that can't be surpassed. I have come a long way over the years and with each step of the way I have realized the power of knowledge is truly incredible.
