My passion for psychology and artistic talents met when I majored in psychology and minored in studio art during my bachelor’s program at Trinity Christian College. From January 2018 to May 2018 and from August 2018 to November 2018, I interned at The Bridge Teen Center in Orland Park, IL. This after-school center for teenagers ages 12 to 18 is in fact, not a counseling center; it is a place that gives teenagers room to grow, concentrating on their development as individuals through expression of interests in the programs offered there. Although this was not considered counseling experience, I gained insight on how to run a business such as this, taking into account the communication skills within the organization, the administrative obligations, and fundraising opportunities seeing as it was a non-profit organization. The communication skills and level of intensity between different colleagues, clients, and parents of clients, were valuable to me because I wishes to open a center similar to this in the near future. Adler University appealed to me after I narrowed down the potential schools I would attend for my master's program. With a two-year program that includes both a master's in counseling and a license to practice art therapy, I can complete my master's degree and receive my license simultaneously. With the dream of opening a private practice, I appreciates the opportunity to gain understanding through interning through the social justice practicum program. The social justice practicum hours required by this institution will provide me with the sophistication in this field of expertise that will set me up for success once I receives my degree. By participating in this program, my intellectual knowledge on the administrative, technical, and communication aspects of running a business in this field will be expanded. After completing this two year program, I aim to work for at least two years until I test to receive my private practice license.
