Helping others has always been a passion of mine. From first grade and participating in a Math-a-thon to support St. Jude's, Rock-a-thon in high school supporting various organizations in the community, Dance Marathon supporting embrace kids foundation and being the Vice President of Philanthropic Services for my sorority, Sigma Kappa. Having family members who have suffered from substance abuse, along with the tragic opioid epidemic which has and continues to take many lives, I knew become a social worker and focusing on addiction counseling, is one of the many ways I can help contribute to helping. Enrolling in a Master's of Social Work program has been the most rewarding and educating experiences of my life. The knowledge that I am gaining from Rutgers University is unimaginable. My goal to to apply this knowledge in a clinical setting for a treatment program that works with dual diagnosis. My long term goal with my degree is to get into policy and make a difference for the nation and not just individuals. I hope to be able to make a difference in many lives and give some peace to families that have lost loved ones to addiction. I often get a face of astonishment as many people underestimate the roles of social workers. While I know I will not make a significant amount of money, I hope to support myself with this career and have comfort knowing that this field isn't about the money.
