Write an essay where you tell us about what drives you in your pursuit of your graduate degree.

Throughout my practice as a Registered Nurse, I have encountered so many individuals who suffer from chronic disease processes. Many times, spending just a few extra moments at the bedside to educate patients on their diagnosis in terms that they can understand makes a huge difference in their outcomes. The positive feedback that I have gained from sitting and listening to patient concerns motivates me to want to continue my work in patient advocacy and improve patient satisfaction. I value my responsibility to be a reliable resource to my patients and their family members during their most vulnerable states. Patient interactions during teachable moments is truly what has inspired me to continue my education and obtain a graduate degree to become a Family Nurse Practitioner. As an advanced practice nurse, I will gain the additional education and knowledge necessary to develop treatment plans and promote health and wellness within my community. I appreciate the time and experience I have gained as a nurse, but truly want to do more! Nurse Practitioners treat patients holistically by examining the "whole picture." I aspire to be a provider that seeks the best care possible for my patient by catering to their unique needs and concerns. I take the relationships with my patients very seriously and aspire to maintain their trust and respect. With this scholarship, I will have the opportunity to pursue this dream and work to make a difference in nursing as well as the health of those within my small community. I am both a committed student and nurse who has proven through my academic successes and leadership roles in the clinical setting that I have what it takes to be successful in graduate school and achieve my lifelong dream of becoming a Nurse Practitioner.
