Write an essay where you tell us about what drives you in your pursuit of your graduate degree.

You cannot teach heart; this is the philosophy that drives me every day. Incorporating this philosophy into a career driven by passion has verified that I have chosen the right profession. This profession offers an opportunity to have a positive real-world impact on patients and build healthier communities. I have used this to encapsulate my career advancement as a nurse, always striving to provide the best possible care. This, however, is not where I wish to end my advanced practice degree. My career advancements as a nursing professional have been driven by milestones that inspired me to learn and attain higher education. One of these moments came just prior to the completion of my NP degree when I was afforded the opportunity to work in IR. I witnessed first-hand the role of the anesthesia provider and the impact on the patient experience. I then began making every effort to align my career so that I could one day become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). .This is the moment that inspired me to obtain my graduate degree. I was afforded the opportunity to witness a very scared pediatric patient who was 7 years old. He was brought in by his parents to the interventional radiology suite with hopes of diagnosing a vascular malformation causing him decreased blood flow to the brain. This was my first encounter with a certified registered nurse anesthetist. She calmly approached him and explained the entire procedure until he felt comfortable leaving his parents behind. The ability to witness a child and his family in what they consider to be the most stressful situation of being in no control change to an overwhelming sense of comfort inspired me to pursue this degree. I want nothing more than to be apart of a community that provides that service and would eventually like to dedicate my anesthesia hours to those that cannot otherwise afford surgeries.
