Write an essay where you tell us about what drives you in your pursuit of your graduate degree.

Let me start off by saying that I already have a Master's Degree. However, I am now in pursuit of a post-baccalaureate teaching credential. Education has always been held in the highest regard in my family. Young as my kids are right now, this is a value that I hope to impart on my kids as well as they enter the public school system.

Having worked in the health and safety field for the past 17 years, I have certainly reaped the benefits of gainful employment from having earned a higher educational degree. But as I go through the process of pursuing yet another post baccalaureate achievement, I am driven by a desire to make a career change that I feel would not only benefit my children in their educational careers, but would also make for better work/life balance for my family. Pursuing a post-baccalaureate teaching credential is my ticket to that career change.

Going back to school in my mid 40's while raising very young kids is quite daunting, but I am ready for the challenge! I want to show my kids that the pursuit of continuing education, at any age, is always a good idea if it helps them achieve the goals that they have set for themselves.

In my case, I have set myself a goal to become a teacher so that I can be more involved in my kid's educational careers. Going back to school with a bunch of younger college students and switching careers in my mid 40's is an uncomfortable feeling at best. However, I choose to take this leap because I know that this is the best course for my family. I want to be an example to my kids that with education, anything is possible.

This next year will be very challenging, but when higher education gives me the opportunity to make a better life for my family - I will gladly accept and run with it! It is my hope that through my example, my kids will value education as I have and realize that the world is theirs for the taking.
