Write an essay where you tell us about what drives you in your pursuit of your graduate degree.

My graduate degree is to pursue my dream of being an Occupational Therapist. In order to be an OT, I have to attend graduate school. I first went to college with an idea that I wanted to be in the health field but did not know exactly what I wanted to do. I joined a health club and found out what OT was. While I was in my sophomore in my undergrad, I started to volunteer in a variety of OT places. Places such as a Pedricatics therapy center, a Physical Therapy and Wellness center, and with horses in OT. This is when I started to fall in love with the profession.

As an undergraduate, I did everything possible to be ready and accepted into a graduate program. Volunteering with pediatrics and seeing these children's progress is what really inspired me to be a therapist. There was nothing I wanted more than for these children to be able to live the best life they could. Having children who had any kind of disability and see them improve, and develop new skills that helped them live a better life really made me want to help as much as possible.

I had a patient who I was with through the beginning all the way to the end of his therapy and developed a great connection with him. Every day I would help him with his therapy while being monitored by the actual OT. It was amazing how this child went through therapy and changed completely. He started being more independent in getting dressed, tieing his shoes, completing thinking worksheets, and learned how to play with others. This is when I knew I had to go to graduate school to be able to become a certified OT and help more kids like him in the future. Knowing that I do not have any disorders or disabilities that prevent me from pursuing a degree like this ones makes me feel very fortunate to know that I can help others live a life that they also deserve.
