Write an essay where you tell us about what drives you in your pursuit of your graduate degree.

For the past year, I have worked at a behavior intervention school where most students have Special Education Severe Behavioral Needs requirements. My students have endured insurmountable traumas; and my school works to teach coping skills and provide a safe space where the learners can process. I love my job because my students demand me at my absolute best, and I am afforded the opportunity to teach life’s important skills: compassion, understanding, forgiveness, growth, and consistency. I am pursuing a Master’s in Education in Special Education to better equip myself to handle the very diverse needs of learners today. In my program, I will learn the most progressive intervention strategies to help with difficult behavior, how to address a spectrum of abilities in the classroom, and the growing importance of social/emotional learning. The education I will receive will help me to understand student diagnosis and their abilities, so I can build a map to graduation for each student. I believe that my learners with special needs deserve the absolute best education possible, and that education starts with my education.
