Write an essay where you tell us about the moment you realized you wanted to become a teacher.

I always knew I was a bit different than other students. I skipped two grades in elementary school, trying to find where I belonged. I was diagnosed with high functioning autism in 7th grade. I received counseling and social skills training and went on to graduate high school at fifteen. When I turned 16 I applied to work at a Kumon Learning center. Two years later I am still there, helping children master math and reading from age three through high school. My mother is a teacher and I watched her worry about her students, even when not at school. I never understood her dedication or love for teaching until I was tutoring students who struggle. I want them to learn and cheer on their successes no matter how small. Recently a student brought me a test score from her school which proved all our hard work for the last year paid off. I could not wait to come home and share this with my mom. It was then I decided to make a choice to pursue education. Since I have always enjoyed math, I will major in mathematics and education dual. I finally feel like I have a goal and a purpose for my future.
