Write an essay where you tell us about the moment you realized you wanted to become a teacher.
There are moments in our lives that we realize that there are things we love and things we want to do. This moment for me was the moment that I realized I wanted to be a teacher. Growing up I had an amazing teacher she taught me so many things and helped me through so many situations. It wasn't until I was in high school doing community service for her that I realized I wanted to be a teacher. I would come to her class and I could just vent to her and talk about anything she helped me through so many situations in my life and I was able to talk to her about anything. I very soon after decided that I wanted to be that person for a student like me I want to be that person that any student no matter who they are feels close enough that he/she can come to me and know that I am a trusting ear. Throughout high school you have those sort of "mom" teachers who think of their students as their kids and I want to be that for students I want them to feel as if I am their "mom away from home" you could say. I want to be able to be the helping hand the student needs when they don't feel like they can talk to their parents about something. Me as a student I was never really comfortable with talking to my schools therapist because I didn't know them one on one and didn't see them everyday to build a relationship with them strong enough for me to feel safe talking to them. Sometimes kids don't need a lecture on how their parents could be better because they already know that part, they just need a shoulder to cry on and for someone to hug them and make them feel safe and feel as if nothing in the world matters anymore. My teachers are what made me want to teach. It wasn't for the money or the insurance, it was to help kids like me that were scared to talk to anyone else some of us are damaged and a counselor or therapist just doesn't cut it sometimes.
