Write an essay where you tell us about the moment you realized you wanted to become a teacher.

The moment I realized I wanted to become a teacher was in the eighth grade. I had one teacher that was always going above and beyond to meet the needs of each individual student. She would stay after school, help in between classes, or come in early. She would do whatever she needed to do to make sure that each student succeeded. She would also be our friend as well. She would participate in games, eat lunch with us, and also organize fun activities in class that would bring everyone closer. She was a friend, a teacher, and even a safe place for some.
One particular day though, she took off her teacher mask and became a parent for a child. She drove a student home who didn’t have a ride. That was the moment I realized I want to become a teacher. This teacher showed me that teaching is tending to the needs of each individual student but, it can also mean being a parental figure to some as well and I want to do that. I want to help educate our future generation while also providing them with a friend they can come back to at any point in their life. While in college, I have been taught the importance of building positive relationships with students and this teacher that I had in the eighth grade did exactly that. She would come in early and go home late just to make sure that each student was accounted for and succeeding.
Not only did this teacher take a student home one day, but she would come to our events outside of school. She would attend soccer games, track meets, dance recitals, and plays. She would ask for our schedules when we received them and she would do everything in her power to attend. Like I said, she didn’t work an 8 am - 4pm job. She took time out of her personal schedule to come and build those relationships with us. She was one of the best teachers I ever had in school and she is the main reason I want to teach. She reached out to each student, included them, and helped them to reach success. That is the kind of teacher I want to be one day.
