Write an essay where you tell us about what inspired you to pursue a nursing degree.
Coming from a low-income family means that every penny counts. It means that you have to work twice as hard to get the things you want. As an immigrant family making a living in the US is hard, especially when you lack the education and language. Moving to the US was an extremely difficult decision for my mom but she wanted to give my sisters a better life. I was the first in my family to be born in the US, first to graduate high school, and first to be going to college. Receiving an education means I get the opportunity to end generational poverty for my family. I'm attending the University of Pittsburgh to obtain my Bachelor's in Science of Nursing. However, I not only want to become a nurse because of my passion for helping others but I also want to obtain my Doctor of Nursing Practice. Ending generational poverty isn't my only concern, I want to give back to the communities that need it the most. I know firsthand what it's like to watch your mom reject medical attention because of the lack of funds. This country has amazing doctors and nurses; however, our healthcare and insurance systems need to change. With that final degree, I want to open up my own practice in areas that lack affordable healthcare. I want to make a difference that not only affects my patients but also the healthcare system as a whole.
