Write an essay where you tell us about what inspired you to pursue a nursing degree.

got pregnant when I was a sophomore in high school and it opened my eyes to how hard real life is. I was only 15 years old when I found out and I was 16 once I had given birth to my daughter. I did not keep my baby, I decided to place her in an open adoption which was the best decision I ever made. I'm still able to watch my daughter grow up while I get my bachelors in nursing. It is an open adoption but it is not a traditional one, she will know I am her birth mom and know she is adopted. We are all like family and I have a bond with her parents. But once I gave birth to her it was really hard because I had prepared myself for being happy for my couple and me but once I saw her I didn't think I'd be able to do it anymore. I had an emergency c-section so I had to stay in the hospital longer than my daughter did. I was able to have her sleep in my hospital room while she was there but after the second she was able to leave. I had my couple stay an extra day in order for me to spend more time with her until my first visit, which was in a couple of weeks, so I signed the papers in order for her to be discharged. In total, I had stayed in the hospital for 4 days and throughout this time my nurse constantly checked up on me. They always made me feel comfortable and didn't treat me any differently than the other patients because I placed my baby. After that experience, I wanted to become a labor and delivery nurse to help moms be comfortable regardless of what their decision is. I want to give back to those who helped me and I am passionate about going to college and finally being able to help others. My education will mean so much to me, I will not be another statistic or a clique. I will graduate high school and college for myself, my family, my daughter, but for every other teen/single mom who was unable to do it. I will be able to show other young girls and women that regardless of how hard it is, it is never impossible.
