Write an essay where you tell us about what inspired you to pursue a nursing degree.

“There are two educations. One should teach us how to make a living and the other how to live.” -John Adams. But first and foremost, it is important to make a living off of something I’m passionate about, and that is nursing. I’am a 17 year old senior at Edna Karr High School in New Orleans, Louisiana. After high school, I plan on attending Prarieview A&M University, an HBCU located in Praireview, Texas. By my 9th grade year in highschool, I was sure that the medical field was where I belonged. I didn’t decide on my area of concentration until my 11th grade year of high school. I was eager to research more and more about nursing, and it seemed like the job description suited me the best. My family and friends would describe me as sympathetic, caring, soft, reassuring, hard working, understanding, and non-judgemental human being. I believe these are the characteristics that are essential to becoming a successful nurse. I aspire to be a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) for a pediatric hospital. My passion for becoming a CRNA for a pediatric hospital is rooted from personal experience. I wanted to help other severely sick children just as those specialist helped me. I was born prematurely with underdeveloped lungs and jaundice. In order to breathe, I needed assistance from a respirator. I remained in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for 3 weeks. This experience took part in my passion because I want to be able to help other children with sickness and developmental issues, undergoing surgery. And have emotional support for pregnant mothers/parents children are going through medical difficulties they have no control of. This scholarship will help me achieve my career goals in the field of nursing by ensuring financial stability for my education. My drive and dedication towards becoming a medical professional is unmeasurable. I Am eager to make my dream a reality by caring for those who are in need of special care from the hands and the heart.
