Write an essay where you tell us about what inspired you to pursue a nursing degree.

My name is Cadee Carter. I am a 42 year old single mother of two wonderful young men. For the last several years, I have worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant in a critical access facility in Montana. As I am trying to encourage my boys to seek a profession they would enjoy and look into the colleges that offer them, I have come to realize that I could better show them by pursuing my dreams of becoming a nurse.
In working in the health profession, I have developed a deep passion for the care of others. My sister is a Registered Nurse and this has helped me to realize its what I want to do as well. I work in the small town I grew up in, and serve the people that I have known for the greater part of my life. Having the opportunity to give back to my community as a Certified Nursing Assistant has been a true blessing, but I would love to be a nurse, and I am finally realizing it is not too late.
During Easter weekend this year, we went to spend time with my parents. It was my dad who brought the conversation up about me going to nursing school. The look on his face when he was talking to me about this, and the fact that he brought it up 3 more times in the weekend, told me this is what I needed to do. My dad has always been my hero, my inspiration, so when he speaks so passionately about something so important, I tend to listen at full capacity.
In conclusion, I can honestly say there is not one specific event that inspired me to pursue my nursing degree. There are several. The fact that I have wanted to be a nurse started it all. Then the looks on my kids' faces when I am telling them they need to go to college, followed by "You can do it too, mom!". And when my dad spoke, just two weeks ago. The one man who has been the biggest inspiration in my life, has once again inspired me to follow my dreams. I am excited to start my new journey and better serve my community. Thank you for taking the time to review my application. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
