Write an essay where you tell us about what inspired you to pursue a nursing degree.

I have always pictured myself helping others, making a difference in someone else's life. My biggest strength is the urge to care for others, unconditionally. As a mother, I put my children first in my priorities. As a person, I am the "go-to" for everyone to count on me when help is needed. As a nurse, I will be able to feel useful on a daily basis and have a fulfilling career. I specifically look forward to working in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit - I am amazed by neonates' resilience and the parents' exceptional strength through that stage in their lives. I will feel blessed to be part of the battle of each of those tiny yet strong soldiers - watching them go home stronger and healthier than anyone could imagine or having to support the parents when the outcome is not as positive as they hoped it would be.
After graduating High School with Honors - top 10% of my class - back in 1998, as a proud Florida Bright Futures full scholarship recipient, I had the dream to become a doctor. This dream was shattered - as I was not able to attend college because of my legal status.
Twenty-one years later, as a full time employee and proud mother of three children - Nicholas, in his second year of college; Christopher, in High School; and Natalia, in elementary school - I am now able to continue my career path and achieve my life-long goal. I enrolled in college January 2019, currently working on an Associate Degree in Science online, to then transfer to a campus next year once accepted in Nursing School. This scholarship will help me achieve my goal without affecting my family's financial needs.
