Write an essay where you tell us about what inspired you to pursue a nursing degree.

I did not know exactly what I wanted to do with my career path with children until I found out that I was pregnant with my first baby. When I first found out I was pregnant with my son, I took a huge step back and looked at my life. I realized that I could not provide for a child with the job I had. So, I decided to look into the world of pursing a degree. When I thought about applying for a major, I wanted to go for nursing.

On September 22, 2018, I had a premature baby boy. I watched the doctor take my baby to give to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) team. When I first saw my baby in an incubator, he was hooked up to multiple machines. The nurses came around and explained what they were doing. As the days went by of going to the hospital every day, I realized that these nurses were keeping these babies alive and making sure they grow strong, so they can go home to their families. That realization became my desire to work in the NICU department.

I know my main source of inspiration to become a nurse comes from a desire to help people and care for them in times of need. I am also a person who thrives on being challenged and I always have new goals to achieve with new learning opportunities and opportunities to grow as a person. Becoming a mother made me realize that I need to step up and show my son I can support both of us. I would love to continue to work with children since they are our future and it will be an honor to fight by their side and help them as much as I can. I believe that pursuing a career in nursing would be a great choice for myself because it is a very rewarding field at the end of the day. All I want in life is to feel like I have made an impact on this world by helping others and being able to raise my son to learn that helping people is the right way to go in life.
