Write an essay where you tell us about what inspired you to pursue a nursing degree.

Be the best version of myself. That has always been my motto in life. At the end of every school year, I always aim to be included in the honor roll, which was something I never failed to do.
When I entered college, I studied mass communication. It wasn’t my first love when it comes to a career choice, though I learned how to appreciate it along the process of earning my degree on it. I also graduated with Latin honors - Cum Laude. Everyone was proud of me, except for myself. That was not my dream.
I have always dreamed about becoming a nurse, just like my two siblings. Unfortunately, both of them were not able to finish it. With that, I conditioned myself that nursing was not really for us. I was afraid that I would fail in my studies and become a disappointment to my mother if I decided to pursue that dream.
I tried to avoid anything that would have any connections with nursing, or in the field of health care. Volunteer opportunities came up, but I did not have the confidence to take it. However, those days being afraid of uncertainties are gone. When I entered college in the Philippines, I have learned the hard way that all of us are prone to mistakes or failures. I was having trouble with some of my classes and was never used to getting low grades based on my own standards.
The most important thing is that you learn from your mistakes, and use it as an advantage to do the right thing next time. I can never be the best version of myself if I will not get out of my comfort zone. When I permanently moved here in the United States, I volunteered to visit patients in nursing homes to be exposed and reconnect to my passion for care and compassion for other people. I have learned how to balance work and school when I went back to school to take science classes. It is a hard thing to do, but a very fulfilling one as well.
With that, I believe that I can achieve my dream, and will be an excellent and competent nurse in the industry.
