Write an essay where you tell us about what inspired you to pursue a nursing degree.
Helping others has always been close to my heart. There are many different factors that play into this for me. I have always helped my parents with my younger brother Jacob, who has Autism Spectrum Disorder. Through him, I have learn patience and compassion. These are two qualities that nurses are known for. I also grew up with a cousin just a bit older than me who has had to live with many medical issues including a pacemaker. I have grown up around a ton of medical talk and knowledge of how health impacts an individual and the one's surrounding them. I have always had a keen interest in medical topics! I decided to go to a vocational school for a Biomedical Science program and my love for science blossomed. I knew that I wanted to do nothing else but to be in the medical field. I never knew exactly what I wanted to be until my junior year when I had tested positive for an STI. I hadn't given much thought to any of that, thinking it would never be something that could happen to me. It had greatly impacted me more than I can explain. I had been going to the same OBGYN for two years at that point and loved the specialists working there. The compassion that they use is something that I had looked up to. After going through that and realizing just how much sexual health affects women (and others), I knew what I had wanted to do. Through a lot of experiences, research, and soul-searching, I came to the conclusion that my heart lies with women's health nursing. Eventually, I would love to become a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner if I am presented the right circumstances. It is something I know that I can do if I work hard enough towards it.
