Write an essay where you tell us about what inspired you to pursue a nursing degree.
Many have asked whya I chose nursing to be my future career. It started back in 2010 after I recently graduated from high school and I had to make a decision of what I wanted to do with my life. Back then I didn't have a say in much of anything I did and listened to others who thought they knew what was best for me.I knew that I wanted to be a nurse, but my grades weren't that great to even be considered a candidate for a nursing program. I went to college undecided my first year and by my Sophomore year I decided to purse my degree in Communication Studies: with a concentration on Radio/TV. I ended up graduating with my Bachelor's degree, but came to the realization that being in Communications was not the best field to work in. Instead, I accepted a position with Dollar Bank. During my time at Dollar Bank I knew this wasn't the road I wanted to go down. I was tired of the constant yelling over the phone from customer's who just didn't know how to handle technology. I knew i could better myself if by going back to school I would be in a better state of mind. After I left Dollar Bank I was hired as a Care Manager for AAA. Honestly, the care management position was the closest experience I had to nursing, but I performed more assessments in regards to determine their Level of Care. While working at Life Span, I was also a full-time caregiver to my grandmother. Last year I was offered a full-time NA position last May, but when I found out my grandmother was going to be living at my mom's house I made the decision to take care of my grandmother as much as possible before she passed away. My grandmother is the biggest reason why I chose to pursue a degree in Nursing because with me helping her with all of her ADLs I never would've embarked on this beautiful journey. During my grandmother's final days I told her that I've been studying for nursing school and will become a CRNA. That is a promise that will never be broken and I promised her that I will succeed!
