Write an essay where you tell us about what inspired you to pursue a nursing degree.

When I was younger, my mother was an STNA. The job seemed difficult and with little reward. Eventually she went on to be a nurse, which appeared worse to me. In that moment, I promised myself that it would never be the job for me.

Fast forward to after high school, and the career I had wanted my entire life seemed like the wrong fit. I was stuck. I did not know what to do anymore. My whole life was centered around a career I no longer liked. Enter the healthcare field.

I applied for a dietary job at a nursing home. When I received the call for an interview, they said they wanted to know if I wanted to be an STNA instead. I told them I had never considered it, but I was desperate, so I decided to try it. As it turns out, I loved it. It was one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever had. I looked forward to going to work everyday. I loved it so much, in fact, that I started thinking about what I could do to further my career in a field I loved.

It was then I decided that nursing was for me. There was nothing more I could imagine myself doing. I applied for nursing school, and I was accepted. It was the most exciting moment I had had in a long time. It is definitely the career path for me.

I have to thank my mother for showing me what healthcare really means. It is not all sunshine and rainbows. It is hard, and it is a lot of work, but it is rewarding. It is a gift. It is the path for me.
