Write an essay where you tell us about what inspired you to pursue a nursing degree.

I grew up in a crowded home. There was me, my parents, and my six siblings. Needless to say, there was always something to do. Luckily, I’ve always had a passion for helping people. I really found my patience when I started attending karate. I trained for ten years and earned my black belt at thirteen. I also volunteered to assist teaching the younger students. During these years, I learned a lot about dedication and discipline. Being a part of this program tested me physically and emotionally and I believe that it made me the strong person that I am today. After my time in karate, I became more engaged in my church. They help run a program called Catholic Heart Work Camp which I participated in for four consecutive years. We take a week out of our summers and travel to different states to help people in need. The best part about this experience was forming a connection with the residents and learning about their lives. After my years of participating, I decided that I wanted something more consistent and enrolled in EMT school. After completing the three months of training and passing the state exam I was officially riding the ambulance helping the people in my community in a completely different way. This helped me realize that I want to be a nurse. I’ve accomplished a lot in my life, but I have so much more to do. My dream is to become a nurse and help people everyday. I want to make an emotional connection with my patients and make sure that they know they are being cared for and be able to create a trusting environment. I am deserving of a scholarship because I am going to do great things. I just need financial aid to get me there. Receiving a scholarship would give me more time to focus on the nursing program and push me another step toward my dreams.
